My "Big Moments" of 2016

It's the first day of 2017. Usually the first day of the new year isn't all that eventful. It's spent sleeping in, maybe an outing for brunch, lots of couch time, maybe some journaling and setting goals. I didn't think I would be motivated to do much today but I ended up doing a few productive things. I also took the time to reflect back on the year and write out my "Big Moments of 2016." Here are "Big Moments" that stood out the most...

* Harrison and I moved in together. - Both of us were coming up on either having to find a new place to live or re-sign a lease. Driving to each other's places starts to get old. It made sense financially, emotionally, and relationally. We both agree it was a great decision and have really enjoyed living together.

* I landed a full-time job with salary and benefits. - This one was huge for me, personally. The only other time I've had a full-time job in my adult life was when I graduated undergrad and worked at Bass Pro Shops for a while until halfway through Divinity School. Then I started in on the 2-3 jobs at one time thing. I have much to say about my career journey so that will be saved for later. All I know is that I needed this job for many reasons and feel very blessed to work where I do.

* All the political happenings - I actually pulled for a candidate for the first time this election season. I was really holding out for Bernie but knew it would be slim. And well...I don't need to re-hash what we all experienced over this last year due to the election. I'm glad it's over with.

* I changed my last name back to Cooper. - I used to be married. The change was needed. More on that later.

* The Black Lives Matter movement - When the movement and uprising came to the streets of Charlotte due to a tragic incident here, I found myself tangled and unsure of a lot of things. I still find it hard to express my feelings on this issue without offending people that I love. I don't like being in the midst of this conflict but know that conflict breeds change and change is needed.

* I felt more inspired and creative than I have in a while. - Launched this blog even though I wasn't thrilled with the layout. Decided I had to go with something and could change it later when needed. Still working on it but glad I created a space for my writing. I've wanted a blog for many many years. Back in the day, I had a Xanga and then a Blogger website. I tried creating something in the past but couldn't focus in on anything. - I've wrote a couple things for another site SocialGoodCLT this year. - Returned to learning music again and while I wasn't consistent in my learning throughout 2016, I am motivated to keep practicing. - Started writing songs with H and hope the inspiration and drive continues to flow through us.

That pretty much wraps up 2016 for me. I'll post a recap in photos this week to close it all out. I've been musing over goals and dreams for 2017. Still working out some action plans but it will all come together eventually.
